Do 'I'm on vacation' posts pose security concerns? :: July 2, 2009
Security News Like a lot of people who use social media, Israel Hyman and his wife Noell went on Twitter to share real-time details of a recent trip. While they were on the road, their home in Mesa, Ariz., was burglarized. Hyman has an online video business called IzzyVideo.com, with 2,000 followers on Twitter. He thinks his Twitter updates tipped the burglars off.

Anti-Spam System Modified :: June 23, 2009
Site News I've added a bad word filter to the anti-spam system to thwart the spike in spam which has hit the site. From now on if there are any more than two keywords in the post content, the anti-spam system will trip.

This may take a while to fine-tune. Let me know if any false positives crop up and I'll tweak the system to prevent them from occurring.

Worm-able Smart Meters Not so Smart :: June 15, 2009
Security News A push by the government and power companies to roll out 'smart meters' on a short deadline could leave up to 52 million U.S. citizens at risk. As Dan Goodin of The Register reports, the proposed meters are "are riddled with security bugs that could bring down the power grid". The risk is more than hypothetical. Security researchers for IOActive have already discovered vulnerabilities in the devices update feature and plan to demonstrate the wormable risk at next month's Black Hat conference.
